A Partnership between

Intel & Technical Digital Media

Intent

Many learners can master technical digital tools but understanding how these tools solve real workplace challenges is essential. Intel offered learners a chance to develop a 3D model of a “Future Classroom” for a leading technology brand, showing them how design thinking, innovation, and industry collaboration can shape education spaces of tomorrow, followed by an opportunity to present their findings on the ‘world stage’ at BETT Show UK.

Implementation

Learners researched modern learning environments and Intel’s brand identity before sketching and prototyping their concepts. Working in collaborative teams, they modelled their classroom designs in CAD, integrating interactive technology, accessibility features, and sustainable materials. The final models were presented to Intel representatives, who provided professional insight into how technology can influence learning spaces and workplace productivity.

Impact

Learners developed industry-relevant skills, from research and planning to advanced CAD design, while engaging directly with a global tech company. They left with stronger portfolios, enhanced presentation confidence, and a clearer understanding of career pathways in technology and design.

Learner Quote:

“This project made me think like a designer working for a global company, I had to combine creativity with problem-solving and real business needs and then present my ideas to thousands of people live on stage!”

Teacher Quote:

“Our learners are used to thinking big, but this project pushed them to operate on a truly global stage. Seeing them turn technical CAD work into creative, future-focused solutions, and then pitch those ideas with such composure, showed me how powerfully industry projects accelerate both skill and confidence.”

Employer Quote:

“The learners didn’t just design spaces; they reimagined what learning could look like in the future. Their ability to merge technical skill with bold ideas and present them so convincingly at BETT was outstanding. It’s clear they already have the mindset of innovators.”

Further key concepts

Whilst the primary focus was on applying advanced 3D modelling techniques to create a functional digital environment, the activity also reinforced other critical areas of the Cambridge Technical specification. Learners practised researching and interpreting brand identity, applying precision in CAD work flows, and incorporating sustainability, accessibility, and interactivity into their designs. They refined their work through collaboration and feedback and developed confidence in presenting complex ideas to professional and global audiences.
